Wigeon

Well today’s wigeon where much more photogenic and played nice. Sadly we still had some cloud cover, so the light was not that great, but suppose to clear up this afternoon. I also put a couple of those real trash ducks in here, sorry they got in the way when taking photos.  See More Photos Inside!

Few Recent Bird Pics

The birds are moving in, but the weather is not being very nice. Got rained on and had bad light all day. I finally gave up on my one spot that I liked the light and moved so the birds were backlit, figured it was better than nothing after laying in the mud for a couple of hours, haha. Cans started showing up, so nee some pics of those soon. Sadly we are suppose to have rain for the next few days.   See More Pictures Go Inside>>>>

Little Lady

This spruce grouse hen has been hanging around near our house for s while.  She was tame enough to let me walk within about 10 feet and then would not get up and fly, was hoping for some in flight pics.  She finally got into the woods more and took off.

The Ptarmigan Slam Pictures

Here are some pictures from our recent trip to get the ptarmigan slam.

 - The Ptarmigan Slam – The Ultimate Alaska Upland Challenge. This hunt is for the serious collector that wants to harvest all three species of ptarmigan in one trip. We have been working on this for the last three years and we are now confident in our locations and have experienced high rates of success.

This ptarmigan hunt takes you on a 400 mile tour of Alaska through 3 mountain ranges hunting the tundra of Interior Alaska to the lowland willows of Coastal Alaska.

Ptarmigan Slam!

We did it! We did a ptarmigan slam the last three days. Jack came to us last week and want to do it to finish his NA upland slam. He first flew to Fairbanks to hunt Rock and Willows. Did that Monday. Then to the coast for white-tail. We got that one today! Took some serious snow showshoeing and hiking, but we got it. Pictures and more to come soon. Sorry for any miss spells. on the phone. Just to excited!!

A Short Spring Ptarmigan Hunting Promo

We had a great day ptarmigan hunting this past weekend.  Got into both Rock and Willow Ptarmigan.  I shot this with the new Canon 7D.  It is a cool camera, but does not track birds with focus during video mode.  But the HD is great.  Watch for more soon.  We leave on Monday for the quest of all three species if ptarmigan in 5 days!

Hope you enjoy -

Some Old Adak Pics – 1980’s

15My uncle was stationed in Adak with the Navy for 18 months back in the 80s. He sent me a bunch of pictures from the time he was there. I figured you guys would enjoy seeing some of them. I wish I had them when I was out there, because I wanted to take some then and now pictures. I only have a couple pics to match up at all. The coolest one is the National Forrest. The 2009-2010 Season is Complete, Crappy!

wrap_13We had a pretty exciting season here at Alaska Wildfowl.

As I sit here sipping on a little Jonnie Walker, it hit me. Duck Season Is Done! CRAP! For the last 144 days we have been in duck season here in Alaska, I have thought of nothing else but the next alarm. I personally spent 118 of those days hunting ducks, and the majority of that guiding ducks. I think I did pretty good staying on the water.

So now, not having to wake up tomorrow morning, I wanted to stop and thank everyone for making this possible. We have a lot of supporters on here and a lot of people that come visit our great state with us. Without the hunters I could not be out there doing something I love to do! There is nothing like waking up to some sea spray in the face. My wife still thinks I am crazy. Read the rest of this story »
